About Burlington Housing Authortity

The Low Rent Housing Agency of Burlington, Iowa is a Public Entity established by the City of Burlington on February 21, 1966 through the provisions of Chapter 403A of the Iowa Code. The Agency operates under various Federal regulations administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and addresses the housing needs of Burlington, Iowa's lower-income population in a non-discriminatory manner through advocacy, administration of programs, and responsible stewardship of owned public housing.

The Low Rent Housing Agency of Burlington owns and operates 201 units (192 dwelling or residential units) of Public Housing at Autumn Heights Apartments, which serves persons age 62 and older and persons living with a disability. The Agency also oversees distribution of up to 325 Housing Choice Vouchers.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program offers safe, decent and sanitary housing conditions for very low-income families throughout Burlington and promotes personal, economic and social upward mobility to provide families the opportunity to make the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing.

The Agency makes appointments for applications the first Thursday of each month for 1 hour from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM or for the first 20 people. You must have a current photo ID.
