About Fort Dodge Housing Agency

Public Housing provides quality, affordable housing, while giving families a "step up" to a better future. The Fort Dodge Housing Agency owns and operates 135 units throughout the City of Fort Dodge including Deercreek Apartments. The Fort Dodge Housing Agency serves as the landlord for the properties. All applicants must meet income guidelines. Criminal record checks along with other reference checks are conducted.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income persons to afford a decent place to live in the private market.

A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit in the city limits of Fort Dodge where the owner agrees to rent under the program. The Housing Agency will inspect the unit to ensure the unit meets Housing Quality Standards.

Housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the Housing Agency on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the amount charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. The voucher family must pay 30% of its monthly-adjusted gross income toward rent and utilities. The family may not pay more than 40% of its monthly-adjusted gross income toward rent and utilities.

All applications are done online at http://www.fd-housing.org. This site will also tell you what documents and forms need to be turned in before your name will be placed on the waitlist.
