About Versailles Housing Authority

In 1937 Congress created the U.S. Housing Act to provide low rent public housing for low-income citizens. The Housing Authority of Versailles began in 1961 with the building of 42 units on Oak, Linden, Poplar and Jackson Street. Ten years later (1971) 54 more units were constructed on Oak, Poplar and Linden Street. The final stage of construction took place in 1981 with an additional 60 apartments being built on Clifton Road, High Street, Berry Avenue and Cleveland Street. There are now a total of 156 units with an office/community building and maintenance shop.

The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds the operating expenses of the properties. However, it is the Housing Authority of Versailles that manages this community. A staff of six administers the programs and maintains the community that houses 156 families.


Mission Statement

The Housing Authority of Versailles is dedicated to providing this community with quality, affordable housing that is decent, well maintained and free from drugs and violent crime. We endeavor to provide livable communities that are made up of a diverse range of economic incomes so that the children have role models who are visibly striving to make gains for their families. We are committed to providing our residents with as many opportunities as possible to become economically self-sufficient.
