About Tyler Housing Authority

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is a federally funded program offered through the City of Tyler. Assistance is provided to assist very low-income, elderly, and disabled families to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are free to choose their own housing that meets housing quality standard requirements and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. The jurisdiction for this program is inside the city limits of Tyler as well as surrounding jurisdictions, with approval. Housing choice vouchers are administered locally by the City of Tyler public housing agency (PHA). PHA's receive federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer the voucher program.
