About Hidalgo County Housing Authority

The Hidalgo County Commissioner's Court passed and adopted a resoulution, declaring a need for public housing on the 4th day of May 1948, and established the Housing Authority of the County of Hidalgo (HACH) pursuant to the State of Texas Housing Law (Article 1269K V.T.C.S.) The Housing Authority was initially created to serve the farmworking families and migrant families in the County. The first Farm Labor projects developed into 246 units in McAllen, TX and 289 units in Weslaco, TX. The Housing Authority has since addressed the housing needs of low-income families with additional programs, such as Public Housing, Housing Choice Vouchers, and Family-Self Sufficiency Programs.

The overall goal of HACH is to provide low-income families and individuals with housing that is decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable.
The HACH is committed to providing opportunities for familes to assist themselves.
