About Housing Authority of Island County

The Housing Authority of Island County was incorporated in 1965 to provide safe, decent, sanitary and affordable housing for low-income and elderly persons in Island County. The Housing Authority serves the 209 square miles of Island County and is governed by a six-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Island County Board of Commissioners.

The Housing Authority owns and manages 110 public housing units for senior citizens or persons with disabilities or handicapping conditions, which are subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Through the HUD Section 8 Program, the Housing Authority administers 289 vouchers. These vouchers are used to subsidize program participants' lease payments for privately owned apartments and houses located within the Housing Authority's service area.

The Housing Authority also owns and/or manages several non-HUD projects in cooperation with other local agencies such as Opportunity Council and Citizen's Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse (CADA).
